ENAMELING
Enameling is the process of applying colored, powdered,
glass to metal and then firing it at high temperatures
in a kiln. As the glass enamel melts, it's thermal
expansion matches the expansion of metal, allowing it
not only to fuse to the metal, but also to remain firmly
attached to it when it cools down again.
Enameling is done on metals that have a higher melting
point than the enamel, e.g. copper, gold, silver &
steel. With each firing (up to 6 and 7 times), more
enamel is added to create deep, rich colors.
Enameling is an ancient art form - not a craft. The
colors created will last forever and will not fade over
time. The distinctiveness of design that artisan Gustavo
creates with each piece is timeless. This enamel master
creates work that resonates across cultures and age
groups. Three sizes of earrings, chunky pendants,
bracelets, trinket boxes, incense
holders and dishes are available year round.
